Great News/Update: Former President Carter No Longer Needs Keytruda® — In Sustained Remission

While we were saddened over the weekend to hear of the passing of one former First Lady, we were very gratified to read about Mr. Carter’s continuing seemingly-complete remission. The melanoma, which had spread to his brain last year, is now undetectable by MRI.

“Cured” is a word oncologists almost never responsibly use — so we (and they) will label the former President as in sustained remission. His cancer has been MRI non-detectable now, for over six months. And so, yesterday at his church, he announced that (after a comprehensive MRI scan cleared him) he is no longer being administered Merck’s Keytruda®. And that is fantastic news, for the 91 year old southern gentleman, from Plains, Georgia. Here’s a bit — from RawStory.com:

. . .Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said on Sunday that he will no longer need treatment for melanoma, a type of skin cancer that had spread to his liver and brain, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper reported.

The 91-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner will continue to be observed by doctors, but will not need treatment with a promising immunotherapy drug that helps the body’s immune system target cancer cells, the newspaper said, quoting his nonprofit public policy center, the Carter Center. . . .

Prior backgrounder, here. Smiling ear to ear, for him, now. . . Go out and do well by one another, one and all. . . . Onward!
